Emergency hot water repair in Cremorne
“What in mercy’s name is this?” Leo muttered to himself, looking at the discharge coming out of the overflow pipe in the heater. It seemed to have started suddenly and Leo was startled thinking both about his water bill and his electricity bill. No, he could not ignore such a heavy overflow problem.
Leo was a car repair main in essence. But he loved to tinker with stuff and he enjoyed doing odd jobs at home himself. So, when the overflow started, he decided that he had to do something about it. He spoke to his friends about the overflow problem. Since it was a thermostat problem, a few of them suggested that he change the temperature pressure relief valve. So, he enquired at the hardware store and got the necessary instructions from his old friend at the store. Equipped with the necessary tools and feeling sufficiently confident, he went about changing the valve. It did not take him too long to get the job done.
“That ought to do the trick,” he thought. And it seemed to have worked because the overflow stopped after he changed the valve. Unfortunately, the next morning, Leo discovered to his dismay that replacing the valve had been a waste of time because the overflow was back with a vengeance. He wondered if there was a problem with the hot water valve. So, he removed the valve and put in a replacement that evening. But, the next day, the overflow was back again.
At this point, Leo was not only frustrated but a wee bit alarmed. What if there was a problem with the hot water heater itself? He did not have the money to replace the water heater just now and he couldn’t abide the thought of taking cold showers before going to work.
Finally, he decided to hire the plumbing expert from Cremorne for the job. He did not want to risk damaging the hot water heater with all his experimentation.
As expected, the plumbing expert from Cremorne came the next morning to look at the hot water system. Leo explained what he did. After listening to him in complete silence, the plumber said, “So, now you are in the unenviable position of doing what you should have done in the first place, eh?”
“What’s that? Call you in, I suppose?”
“No. You need to find out why the overflow was happening before you fix it.”
Then, the plumber went on to explain the reasons for overflow. He checked the water pressure of the incoming line. It was too high.
“So, it’s not a valve you need, but a water pressure regulator. Luckily for you, I had some idea of what was happening when you called me last evening. So, I’ve brought a regulator with me,” the plumber beamed.
Leo scowled as he watched the expert plumber from Cremorne finish off the job.
“No need to get miffed, you know. We’re the plumbers after all, and good ones at that,” the plumber reminded him gently. Leo had to accept that these plumbers were really good. They had a reputation of being the best, not just in Cremorne but in Cammeray, Neutral Bay, Mosman, Northbridge, Crows Nest and North Sydney too.
